Driving Standards Agency

Your Driving Instructor

My name is Jon Rich, and I will be your Driving Instructor.

Jon Rich, Approved Driving Instructor in Chelmsford area

Grade A Approved Driving Instructor

I am a fully qualified and highly experienced, 'Grade A' Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) with a very impressive pass rate. My busy and established driving school operates in and around the Chelmsford area in Essex, covering most areas within a 30-minute drive of Chelmsford town centre.

Professional Standards and Customer Care Excellence

As a BSM trained and qualified Driving Instructor, I have worked for many years with the two largest driving schools in the UK. I now run my own totally independent driving school, which I feel, offers my pupils the best of both worlds:

  • the high professional standards of the bigger driving schools.

  • a personal and pupil-centred approach, which, as a smaller driving school, I am able to give to each of my pupils - from your first contact to your last lesson, I will be there to answer all your questions, teach you and give you the support you need to pass your driving test!

Enjoy Learning to Drive with a Patient Driving Instructor!

I specialise in teaching nervous drivers, and feel it is important that my pupils actually enjoy their driving lessons. In fact, I pride myself on the fact that I actually make learning enjoyable whilst at the same time always conducting my lessons in a friendly, professional atmosphere - where of course safety is of the utmost importance at all times.

I am a calm, patient and reliable person with experience of teaching people from all age groups and walks of life. I am easy to get along with, and like my pupils to feel comfortable and at ease when learning to drive with me so that it is an enjoyable experience. I adapt the driving lessons to the individual, so that we work to exactly the right pace for you, whilst at the same time ensuring that we cover the necessary elements of the syllabus so that you pass your driving test as soon as possible.

Insurance

I have a fully Comprehensive Company Car Insurance Policy. I also hold Professional Indeminity and Public Liability Insurance.

Criminal Records Bureau Check

New regulation from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA, formerly known as the DSA) now requires that all ADIs (Approved Driving Instructors) have a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check. I can confirm that my check has been done - I have been cleared and approved by the CRB and hold no criminal record of any kind.

Guarantee of Confidentiality

All my pupils are guaranteed strict confidentiality, and all pupil notes and records are kept secure and confidential at all times. I am compliant under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA 2018) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which came into effect on the 25th May 2018. The GDPR forms part of the data protection regime in the United Kingdom, together with the new Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018). The main provisions of this apply, like the GDPR, from the 25th May 2018. For further information, please visit the Information Commissioner’s Office website (ICO).

Professional Memberships

I am a member of the DIA (Driving Instructors Association) and DICE (Driving Instructors Club Essex).

These organisations keep their members up to date with news regarding current Driving Standards and Regulations, Continuous Professional Development requirements (CPD), and hold regular meetings with guest speakers on specialist driving matters. I read these newsletters and attend these local meetings regularly to ensure that I always stay up to date, thus meeting industry standards and criteria.

What does 'Grade A' mean?

Put simply, the Grade Letter defines the quality of the Driving Tuition you will receive from your Driving Instructor.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) checks up on us Driving Instructors too from time to time to ensure that our knowledge and teaching skills are up to scratch, so that our pupils are getting the very best level of quality driving tuition. This usually happens at least once every four years, and is called a 'Check Test'. We are graded A or B (A being the highest quality and B the lowest quality).

I was awarded 'Grade A' which is the highest grade achievable. This means that when you learn to drive with me, you know you are getting the highest quality driving tuition, as I excelled in all areas tested, achieving the highest possible scores - and the Check Test is conducted by an Examiner from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) that sets these standards of excellence.

The 'Check Test' covers the three core competencies: Fault Identification, Fault Analysis and Remedial Action. It then goes on to assess the Driving Instructor's instructional techniques which include:

  • Recap at start of driving lesson.
  • Aims/Objectives.
  • Level of Instruction.
  • Planning of driving lesson.
  • Control of driving lesson.
  • Communication.
  • Question and Answer Technique.
  • Feedback/Encouragement.
  • Instructor's use of controls.
  • Recap at end of driving lesson.

Learn to Drive with Peace of Mind

First of all, check that your Driving Instructor is fully qualified, as some Driving Instructors are teaching their pupils on 'Trainee Licences'. This means they still have to pass the final part of their training exams before they are fully qualified. They will have a pink badge displayed in their car, as opposed to a green badge displayed by a fully qualified Driving Instructor like myself.

Once you have checked that your Driving Instructor is fully qualified, ask what grade your Driving Instructor has achieved in his/her 'DVSA Check Test' to ensure you receive a high standard of quality driving tuition.

I give this assurance to all my pupils because I have been awarded the 'Grade A Level Certification' for which I am very proud. It is extremely important to me that I continually increase, improve and update my knowledge and skills so that I always provide the highest possible level of service to all my pupils.

So why wait to find out that learning to drive really can be fun?
